Hello
Welcome to my Media Scholar Eportfolio
Hello, my name is Ria Rawool. I am currently a freshman at the University of Maryland majoring in studio art under the Media, Self, and Society Scholars program. This website is an eportfolio to showcase my time and experiences under the Scholars program. Here you can find a few of my favorite assignments or projects as well as a catalog of my favorite moments as a Media Scholars student. This eportfolio will be updated throughout the next two years as I continue to learn and grow as a college student. Media Scholars has given me an opportunity to meet so many new people outside of my major and make so many new friends especially through quarantine as well as taking classes from home. Seeing as we are media scholars, we have discussed a lot of the news occurring around us from the Black Lives Matter movement to the 2020 elections. Through this program I’ve been exposed to different perspectives on current issues which I probably wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. I believe Media scholars will allow me to form contacts and learn about how traditional and social media discusses current issues. I also hope to use this program as a way to spread awareness on issues and other important situations occurring around us through our assignments like the Instagram stories for COVID-19 and voting. Finally I hope to make a lot of new experiences and continue to grow as a person under Media scholars.
Aside from my time under scholars another type of media I have been following recently is this blog know as AIGA aka the The American Institute of Graphic Arts. AIGA is a professional organization for design. Its members practice all forms of communication design, including graphic design, typography, interaction design, user experience, branding and identity. The organization's aim is to be the standard bearer for professional ethics and practices for the design profession. Currently UMD even has it's own chapter of AIGA. this is a great way to bridge my passion for the arts with the content I am learning as a Media Scholars student.
