Here are some of my works as a Media, Self and Society Scholars Student
Gen Z Voter Challenge
Instagram Story Activity
I chose the social media voting stories assignment because it is an assignment where I was able to communicate with my peers and promote voting for the upcoming 2020 election through a fun, easy and artistic way. It also allowed me to use my graphic design skills, which is what I’m hoping to concentrate in, and practice those skills in a way that was actually helpful to my peers. This assignment has allowed me to research and understand ways in which we can vote during the 2020 election through mail-in ballots as well as the limitations for in-person voting stations. I was also able to learn through this assignment since this was going to be my first year being able to vote as an 18 year old, so it allowed me to educate myself about how it works and then promote it to people who might also need to understand a bit more. Finally through this assignment I was able to examine how Tik Tok has given many people an easier way to understand elections. Many creators have started using their platform to educate their followers who would otherwise be confused or unable to follow the amount of news being thrown at them about the nominees and other voting related things.

BLM Coverage
Reflection Activity
I chose this assignment because it allowed me to research and understand how the Black Lives Matter movement is being portrayed in current traditional media as well as on social media. I was also able to also understand the differences between the traditional media narrative as compared to the social media narrative that my current generation and younger generations in general have continued to promote. This assignment allowed me to see political bias in terms of how these movements and protests are seen or portrayed in the media. For example, many television news channels were showcasing the Black Lives Matter protests as riots and extremely violent while focusing more on the people looting stores. The major issue I noticed was that many of these news outlets weren't actually focusing on the reason behind these protests or the actual reason why people were raising their voices and stepping out, but instead focusing on the violent actions and the events occurring which was a pretty small part of the actual movement. Through this assignment I was able to understand how the medias’ narrative can affect a viewer's perspective on a certain piece of news.
